Carnisseria Companatge Xaló
Carnisseria Companatge, on the Placeta, has been making its own embutidos (cured sausages) to recipes from the Vall de Pop since 1964, which suits the name: companatge is whatever you eat with your bread.
Think bufa (a sausage you mostly find in this area), chorizo, lomo (cured pork loin) and morcilla de ceba, a blood sausage made with onion. The chorizo and the morcilla also come in a spicy version. A few of the sausages are made with almonds, orange or honey.
The shop started out as Carnicería Galán, and the old tiled sign above the window is still there: “Carns i Embotits Galan, casa fundada l’any 1964, fabricació pròpia” (meat and sausages, founded 1964, made on the premises). In 2018 it joined Companatge, a company from Ibiza that makes sobrasada and goat’s cheese and runs the Can Caus grill restaurant on the island. Since then the shop has become more professional and the range a good deal bigger. Xaló now has its own Can Caus too.
On Saturdays you’ll also find them at their fixed wooden stall at the Mercat de la Terra.
